i could step across it easily and the fact that it stretched for fifiteen handred miles---all of that showed how far the chinese could go with a bad idea .but it also seemed very chinese that despite its original failure the wall now had great value .it had become perhaps the most powerful symbol of national pride, and nobody connected it with negative qualities like isolationism and stubbornness .television stations often showed a music video that had been filmed on the great wall;the song was called "love my china ",and it celebrated the nations fiftyfive minority and the happiness they enjoyed in the peoples republic ."love my china "was a miserable ,cloying song ,but like so many of the bad music programs on television it had a sort of fatal attrationg --i always watched it to the bitter end .the songs conclusion featured representative minorities dancing on the great wall ,dressed in traditional costumes as they sang how much they loved their china ,every time i watched it ,i thought :your china built that wall to keep you people out .

everyday it was thirty-five degrees celsius .supposedly the goverment had a policy that if the temperature reached thirty-seven degrees everybody was given the rest of the day off ,and so they always announced the official temperature as thirty -five .china was perhaps the only country in the world where the government controlled the temperature, although two years later the beijing weather stations finally started annoucing the temperature as it actually was. lacal newspapers hailed this development as an important step toward telling citizens the truth ,and perhaps it was:today the temperature ,tomorrow the full report on the tiananmen square massacre .

  • haha, its coincident that Im from Fuling ,but Ive never heard about this guy.
Fuling is just a district of China, about 2 hoursride. So he just keep his one eye on everthing, I think.
I remember the students are allowed to stay at home because the hot day when it was 1995, so the official temperature was reported 38.
could you pls kindly tell me where i can get the book, besides on amazon? i dont wanna pay that much for a foreigner to bitch China :)
• every time i watched it ,i thought :your china built that wall to keep you people out .
• very interesting...its good to know how foreigners see china...actually i share the same comments on the minority thing and the unreal weather forecast...but it doesnt mean i dont "love my china". i do. and just because of that, i want it to be better.
could you pls kindly tell me where i can get the book, besides on amazon? i dont wanna pay that much for a foreigner to bitch China :)
• sorry. it is hutong karma.
